Care and Maintenance

GRANITE

  • If you spill something, clean it up right away. Soap and water should be sufficient for
    clean up.
  • Do not cut directly on your stone as you will dull your knife and possibly damage your
    granite.
  • Always place raw meats on a cutting board or plate. If you put it directly on the stone,
the bacteria can seep into the pores of the granite.
  • Design Surfaces offers Custom AquaShield Cleaner & Resealer, which seals your stone
    every time you clean.
  • We also offer Custom Concentrated Stone & Tile Cleaner for natural stone which
prevents soap scum build up and hard water deposits
  • For biannual or yearly sealing, we sell Custom Sealer’s Choice Gold sealant. It’s a no-
sheen, natural-look, water-based, penetrating sealer formulated to provide maximum
stain protection. Rapid curing formula can achieve stain protection in four hours.

MARBLE

  • The most important thing to know with marble is to use a mild, pH-neutral, non-
abrasive soap. You can mix a little soap or dish soap with warm water. Do not use too
much soap as it can leave behind a film.
  • Acidic cleaners like vinegar, Windex and bleach should not come into contact with
marble. Even a lemon wedge can begin to eat into the marble within seconds.
  • Abrasive particles or rough sponges will scratch the finish off marble.
  • As soon as a liquid spills on marble, clean it up immediately. Try to blot the liquid
    instead of wiping it.
  • Use hot pads and trivets when placing hot items on your stone.
  • Design Surfaces offers Custom AquaShield Cleaner & Resealer, which seals your stone

DOLOMITE

  • Acidic cleaners like vinegar, Windex and bleach should not come into contact with
    dolomite.
  • As soon as a liquid spills on your stone, clean it up immediately. Try to blot the liquid
    instead of wiping it.
  • Use hot pads and trivets when placing hot items on your stone.

QUARTZITE

  • Use coasters for glasses and mugs.

QUARTZ

  • Wipe up spills immediately.
  • Use hot pads and trivets when placing hot items on your stone.
  • Always use a cutting board. While quartz is scratch resistant, it’s not scratch proof!
  • Stay away from harsh chemicals.
  • Wipe your quartz counters with mild dish soap and a soft rag.
  • Scrape off dried gunk from the quartz surface.
  • Take a degreasing agent like Custom NanoScrub, that we sell at Design Surfaces, to
    clean anything off your quartz.
  • If you have a tough stain, use Custom NanoScrub, sold by Design Surfaces, to rub away
    the stain.
